Tuesday, December 12th at 12:30pm at The Tea Kettle in Old Saybrook (see below for details).
“The Rules of Civility” by Amor Towles is the novel to be discussed at the December 12th meeting of the Library Tuesday Book Discussion Group. New York Times reviewer Liesl Schillinger said of it, “With this snappy period piece Towles resurrects the cinematic black and white Manhattan of the golden age of screwball comedy, gal-pal camaraderi and romantic mischief.” Its main characters are youthful women in the exciting but uncertain times of late 1930s New York City. Katya from Brooklyn becomes “the more clubbable” Katey in Manhattan meeting the much more clubbable with their fine furs and limousines. Her wit and determination will see her rise from a law firm secretarial pool to an assistant at the new Conde Nast magazine and as they say, that will make all the difference.
In keeping with tradition, December’s meeting will be held at The Tea Kettle, 1395 Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook in celebration of the season. Lunch and discussion will begin at 12:30. For any questions call Kathy at 860 663 3130.
