Planned Giving

The Killingworth Library Association, Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation that has been serving our community since 1960. The Library has grown tremendously with the steadfast support of the Killingworth community!

Most, but not all, of the Library’s annual support comes from the Town of Killingworth, which contributes about two-thirds of the Library’s annual operating budget. The remaining one-third has been the responsibility of the Library Board. With the help of numerous volunteers and donors, significant funds are raised through the Annual Fund drive, book sales, and other fundraising events, but these efforts alone are not enough to complete the funding for each year’s budget needs.

To play a vital role in the future of the Killingworth Library, you may wish to consider one of these ways to support the Library and ensure that its resources continue to be available for the generations to come.

Your donation can be made without restrictions, or may be made for a specific project that the Library currently sponsors or is planning. (Please contact the Library Director to discuss specific projects.)

For a lasting effect, consider making a donation to the Killingworth Library Endowment. Click here for more information on our Endowment.

Besides making a direct cash donation, some other ways that you can give a gift with a significant impact on the future of the Library include:

Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds: There are tax advantages to donating appreciated securities; please consult your tax advisor for details, and please contact the Library Treasurer (information below) for transfer instructions prior to selling securities.

Individual Retirement Accounts: If you are of a qualifying age, you can make donations from your IRA directly to the Killingworth Library while satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). This type of donation is known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD, and your gift would not be included in your taxable income.

Estate Planning: You can name the Killingworth Library as a beneficiary of your estate or trust, either in a specific amount or as a portion of the estate or trust. You can also designate the Killingworth Library as a beneficiary of a retirement account, pension plan, or life insurance policy. Bequests are nonbinding and can be modified at any time if your circumstances change. Your attorney can help you select the philanthropic option that is best for you.

Memorial Gifts: Gifts of any type can be made to honor the memory of a friend or loved one.

Thank you for considering a gift or bequest to the Killingworth Library! For more information on any of these donation options, please contact Jan O’Sullivan, Library Board Treasurer, treasurer@killingworthlibrary.org.
