Tuesday, December 8th, 12:00pm, at Amici Restaurant in Middletown. The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald is the novel to be discussed at the December 8th meeting of the Killingworth Library Tuesday Book Discussion Group. The story’s setting is the fictional West Egg on prosperous Long Island. The time is the summer of 1922, a careless, glittering, partying slice of the Jazz Age.
Considered “a cautionary tale of the American Dream”, one of the story’s most famous lines sums up many of its characters. “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
In keeping with our December holiday tradition, the discussion will take place over lunch at Amici Italian Grill in Middletown. Please RSVP to Kathy at 860-663-3130 by December 1st to reserve your spot.
