“The Lions of Fifth Avenue” by Fiona Davis is the novel to be discussed at the September 14th meeting of the Killingworth Library Tuesday Book Discussion Group. The novel spans 80 years (1913-1993) and 3 generations and is centered around the majestic Beaux Art New York Public Library flanked by the iconic marble lions, Patience and Fortitude. The family of Laura Lyons moves into a spacious apartment within the library when her husband becomes superintendent of the NYPL. A valuable book goes missing while her family is living there causing consternation all around. Eighty years later when Laura’s granddaughter Sadie Donovan works at the library as a curator, valuable material will also go missing. The magnificent library itself looms as the most impressive character in this tale.
Discussion begins at 1:00, location is presently planned for Parmelee Farm depending on weather. Final location or zoom site will be announced by 11:00 that morning. Books can be picked up in person at the library’s circulation desk. (Masks are presently required in the library.)
