Tuesday Book Club Title for November

Join us as we discuss West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. It is a fictionalized account of a real road trip with two young giraffes across the south headed for the San Diego Zoo. The giraffes arrived in New York Harbor during the 1938 hurricane, and amid that chaos were put on a specially engineered flat bed truck for the journey. This is a sweet tale of those along the way who had never seen a real giraffe and awaited the truck’s arrival in their small towns. They offered food and leaves and lay over places for the animals, the “old man” who is a natural giraffe whisperer, the runaway teenager he hires to drive the truck, and the red headed reporter who desperately wants her pictures of the adventure to end up in Life magazine.

Only a limited number of copies are available for checkout. If you are unable to get one, please contact fellow readers on the book club email list, to see who can lend theirs when they’re done. Thanks for your patience!

The discussion will be held in the library’s meeting room. Newcomers always welcome!
