Named as one of the NYT Ten Best Books of 2017, it is a sprawling family saga that spans many decades and two cultures, Korean and Japanese. The title refers to one of the very few business opportunities open to Koreans immigrating to Japan. It is a type of mechanical game that originated in Japan and is used there as a gambling device, filling a niche much lot slot machines in the western gaming world.
