Join us as we discuss The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson.

This group will be meeting via Zoom. If you are interested in joining the group, please email the library at mail@killingworthlibrary.org.

The story revolves around two historical elements, the Blue People of Kentucky and the Pack Horse Library Project of the Depression Era WPA. Nineteen year old Cussy Carter is the the last living female of Blue People ancestry. She is also a pack horse librarian serving the hill people of Eastern Kentucky. Harsh and lonely as her life may be, Cussy finds purpose and reward in bringing books and more to those she serves. A Kirkus reviewer said of this novel : “With a focus on the personal joy and broadened horizons that can result from access to reading material, this well researched tale serves as a solid history lesson on 1930s Kentucky.”

Extra copies will be available at the circulation desk.
