The Display Case is Heating Up with Volcanic Minerals

Come check out the magmatic minerals on display for the month of February! Among the specimens are a jar of ash from Mount St. Helens, and some beautiful formations of volcanic glass from Hawai’i. If your kids are signed up for our weekly Minecraft program, let them know they can come see a block of obsidian in real life — no diamond pickaxe required.

Thanks very much to Bob Reynolds and Al Peret, of the Thames Valley Rockhounds, for letting us display part of their collection. If you want to see more, don’t forget to sign up for Al Peret’s “Rocks and Minerals of Connecticut” presentation on February 26th! And, later this spring, make sure to come learn about fossils with Bob Reynolds on May 25th.
