President James A. Garfield: a Re-examination

Join the Killingworth Library for an engaging Zoom program by retired HKHS teacher Philip Devlin on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00pm!

This presentation re-examines the life of the poorly understood 20th American President. Garfield possessed remarkable qualities of character and had an enormous impact on his world. He was a brilliant mathematician, for example, who made a lasting contribution to geometry; furthermore, despite not having a military background, he used his mathematical skill to win a major Civil War battle against a West Point graduate and was eventually promoted to be a general. Garfield had many connections to Connecticut residents, especially in the town of Haddam. A boat disaster off of the coast of Old Saybrook in 1880 is directly linked to his assassination.

Please register in advance, a Zoom link will be sent to registered attendees the day before the program.
