Native Reptiles and Amphibians of CT: January 14, 7:00 PM

Please join us at the Killingworth Firehouse on Tuesday, January 14 at 7 pm for “Native Reptiles and Amphibians of Connecticut ,” presented by Russ Miller, the ranger at Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonassett State Park. Meet the native reptiles and amphibians of Connecticut. Learn what is special about each of Connecticut’s 14 species of snakes, including how and what they eat, their habitats and natural history.  The talk will dispel myths about snakes.  Also learn about the nearly 20 different amphibians living in Connecticut – what makes them an amphibian and what makes them unique. There will be a variety of live animals for comparison.

Ranger Russ Miller has been the director of the Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonassett State Park Since 2001.  Prior to that, his work with D.E.E.P. was as an environmental educator at Rocky Neck State Park starting in 1988.  He has an associates degree from Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Park and Recreation Management, and a bachelors degree in biology from Eastern Connecticut State University.

Throughout his time with the Department he has taken on the task of bringing high-quality environmental education to millions of school children and adults. Russ is constantly looking for new ways to plant the seeds of environmental awareness in the minds of young and old alike. Russ never has a bad day and works tirelessly to impart his enthusiasm for nature and the environment to others. This enthusiasm is contagious and spurs others to continue to speak on behalf of the animals, plants and ecosystems that depend on our stewardship.
