Tuesday, January 13th at 1:00pm. The group will discuss Philip Roth’s 30th book “The Humbling.” Famed stage actor, Simon Axler is the aging male around which Roth builds this short novel. An attempt to play both Prospero and Macbeth on stage at the Kennedy Center goes very much awry leaving the man utterly alone and depressed. After a stint in a mental hospital, Axler meets Pegeen, a much younger woman and the romantic adventures begin. But Roth being Roth, they would. The story has been adapted for the big screen staring Al Pacino as Axler. It is to be released early this year.
Discussion begins at 1:00 in the Killingworth Library meeting room. Extra copies of the book are available at the circulation desk.
