People came in record numbers to support Killingworth Library Association’s “Cheers to the Next 50 Years” celebration fundraiser, planned in partnership with the Killingworth Women’s Organization.
“The success of our Cheers event was beyond all expectation,” said Alison Karam, president of the Killingworth Library Association’s board of directors. “We sold 140 tickets, had a great auction, raised over $6,300 for the library, and made a lot of people happy.”
The fun, family-friendly event was held at the library Saturday, November 8, 2014 with food from High Tide Gourmet, an open bar (generously supported by the Country Package Store in Killingworth), and a dessert table loaded with savory baked goods contributed by the library’s new Friends Circle of Volunteers, board members, Cozy Corner and Dunkin Donuts. Broadcast journalism students from HKHS staffed a video area to interview attendees who chose to be part of the library’s 50th Anniversary video.
The highlight of the evening was the impressive array of more than 60 silent and live auction items donated by generous individuals and local businesses. Live auctioneer Michael Nuzzo added excitement and humor as he helped raise much-needed funds for the library association, which is now focusing on its next half-century of service to the Killingworth community.
“What impressed me most was the generous support from the community and the teamwork that went into making this such a great event,” Karam added. “From the partnership with KWO to the role each person played before, during and after the event… I couldn’t have been more proud to live in this town and be part of such a dedicated group of wonderful people as the Killingworth Library Association board.”
