Tuesday Book Discussion

Strangers In Their Own Land

Tuesday, May 8, at 1:00p.m. Join us as we discuss Strangers in Their Own Land by Berkeley-based sociologist Arlie Russell Hochschild. The book’s two subtitles, “Anger and Mourning on the American Right” and “A Journey to the Heart of Our Political Divide,” are the product of the years Hochschild spent studying and interviewing a group of Louisianan Tea Partiers. With mutual respect all round, the author seeks to understand the world view that keeps many working class people voting against their economic interests and distrustful of all federal programs, even those most beneficial to them. Extra copies available at the circulation desk. Newcomers arealways welcome!
