Tuesday, February 10th, 1:00pm. Featuring “Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community and War” by Nathaniel Philbrick. Janet Maslin in her NYT review described “Mayflower” as “ a surprise-filled account of what are supposed to be some of the best known events in this country’s past but are instead an occasion for collective amnesia.”
For most New Englanders the names and places will be very familiar. Much of this accounting focuses on Puritan and Indian leadership with early successes and second generation failures. Philbrick has proven once again that he can deliver a masterful narrative that brings history home and its themes through to the present.
Extra copies of the book are available at the circulation desk. Newcomers always welcome!
