Tuesday, November 14th at 1:00pm. Join us as we discuss The Street by Anne Petry. The novel relates the relentless struggle of a single black mother trying to raise her son on the unforgiving Harlem streets of the early forties. The author was a native of Old Saybrook and the first black woman to graduate in 1931 from UCONN’s School of Pharmacy. “The Street” sold over a million copies when it was published in 1947, another first for an African American woman, and has been republished again and again over the ensuing decades. Extra copies available at the circulation desk. Newcomers always welcome!
