Tuesday, July 12th at 1:00pm. “The Meursault Investigation” by Algerian journalist Kamel Daoud is the philosophical novel to be discussed. The story springs from the murder of the “nameless Arab” shot by the Camus’ character Meursault in “The Stranger.” Daoud gives the Arab a name and a life. The dead man’s brother, as narrator, pursues that crime and its many layered implications for colonialism, religion and racism as perceived both by Camus and Daoud. The format is reminiscent of “The Reluctant Fundmentalist”, a recent book club discussion choice. Books can be found at the circulation desk and newcomers are always welcome.
