Tuesday, February 9th at 1:00pm. The non fiction memoir “The Hare with Amber Eyes” by Edmund de Waal is the book to be discussed at the February meeting of the Library’s Tuesday Book Discussion Group. Subtitled “A Hidden Inheritance,” it tells the story of the passing down through generations of a collection of Japanese miniatures (netsuke) from 1871 through 2009. The proud possession of the Ephrussi’s, a once prosperous Jewish banking family of Vienna, Odessa, and Paris, the collection was hidden from the Nazis even as most of the family’s possessions were lost to them. De Waal himself is a well known British ceramicist and writes beautifully of art in general as well as the miniatures now in his possession.
Newcomers and drop ins are always welcome. Books can be found at the circulation desk.
